West Capitol Park, Albany NY

Frack Free Nation presents Another Frack Free Peaceful Day Of Action

At the invitation of Frack Free Nation inc., grassroots citizens of New York and beyond will bring their message to Albany and call on Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Department of Health to stop all new gas extraction until a full public health assessment has been conducted. They demand that the Governor withdraw the Revised Draft SGEIS that addresses permit conditions required for gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale, and that New York State ban and criminalize hydraulic fracturing on the basis that it poses serious health and environmental risks.

They also call on President Obama to repeal the Energy Policy act of 2005, which exempted the oil and gas industry from the protections of The Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, and Clean Air Act.

The event will include a day long free offering of music, speakers, and an opportunity to participate in peaceful creative direct action in the Capitol.

During the last Grassroots Peaceful Day of Action, On May 15, Abram Loeb, founding organizer of Frack Free Nation and Joanne Kathleen Farrell of Occupy Albany were charged with disorderly conduct after they allegedly sprawled in front of the doors to the Executive Chamber. “The peaceful day of action was a success in uniting the grassroots of the environmental and social justice movements together for a ban on fracking,” said Loeb. “We must begin to look at protecting our water and children’s health as a human rights issue.” “On June 5 we will be back to be sure Governor Cuomo understands, we are not going to melt away on this issue.”

The event opening will be preceded by a 11:00 AM press conference at West Capitol Park. Heath Hill, a First Nations speaker will offer an opening prayer at 11:30 AM. Frack Free Nation will provide a platform throughout the day for grassroots candidates, interspersed with inspiring state-wide musicians and performers from Ulster County, W.E.Unite and the Up North Movement and their supporters.

After a lunch time planning session activists plan to enter the Capitol Building with creative theatrical expressions designed to exhibit the truth about natural gas and hydraulic fracturing.  At 2:30 pm Frack Free Nation will hold a rally in The War Room as a prelude. The theme of the action is billed as ” I will tell the truth about shale gas mining – Cross My Heart and Hope to Die IN” and is a reference to the fact that truth has been facing an uphill battle on this issue in Albany and also the rare transit of the planet Venus across the sun which is happening on that day. Frack Free Nation is inviting participants to bring their own interpretation of the theme as a means of keeping Governor Cuomo’s attention on how important this issue is to the public.

The concert will resume at West Capitol Park after the action has concluded inside the capitol, featuring the Paul Mantia Band, Liana Turner, DJ BigBoy, Rick McNamara and Friends and CARBONE. Speakers will include Abram Loeb, Colia Clark, Green party candidate for Senate, Joel Tyner, a candidate for Congress in the newly created 19th Congressional District, Anti Nuclear Activist Spike Jones of My Name is Allegany County, Chrys Countryman of Walk About Water and Eyad Alkurabi, National Organizer for Get Equal, and Joanne Kathleen Farrell of Occupy Albany.

  1. Maycol says:

I agree 100% and I am also outraged! Our piiitlcoans/our Congress are not answerable to the people; they are bought and paid for by corporate interests for whom our constitutional rights are an impediment to profit making.Until WE the people and the majority of the people recognize and embrace the fact that our planet; and all natural resources are SACRED; more so than any manufactured product or commodity; we will continue to cause suffering and violence and difficult consequences for ourselves and our children! We must look to those who are living in balance and creating commerce in ways that are more respectful and considerate of our precious resources.
