On Wednesday, June 20, 2012 hundreds of citizens from across New York State will join with residents from the Southern Tier to converge on The Capitol in Albany.   They stand united in their opposition to Governor Andrew Cuomo’s plan to allow Shale Gas Fracking in 5 Counties in the Southern Tier (Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Steuben, and Tioga).  Frack Free New York and Frack Free Nation will join with many local grassroots groups across the state to demand that Governor Cuomo protect ALL the citizens of NY State.

Frack Free Nation is calling the event, “EMERGENCY CALL TO ACTION: Frack Free Nation Stands Firm with the Southern Tier – NOT IN MY BACK YARD – NOT IN ANYONE’S!!! – KEEP THE PRESSURE ON – Let’s GET LOUD!!!”

According to the New York Times, Governor Cuomo plans to go ahead with environmentally destructive Horizontal FRACKING in some areas of NYS.  Since no serious study has been done on the cumulative public health impacts of the gas extraction industry and the proposed DEC rules and regulations are being formulated without that critical information, this is totally unacceptable. “We know from experience once the industry gets its foot in the door that safety and environmental standards will not improve without a pitched battle at every point.  The Marcellus and Utica Shale reaches across most of New York State.  Someday your home town will be next in line. This is a critical time to speak up,” said organizer Abram Loeb of Afton, NY

The group is demanding that Governor Cuomo withdraw the inadequate and incomplete Environmental Impact Statement (rd SGEIS)!!!   They are demanding an independent study on the cumulative public health impacts of the gas and oil extraction industry!!!  “Sacrifice Zones are not acceptable!”  “No Demonstration Districts!!!”  “IT IS A CRIME to (allow industry to) POISON ANY OF US!!!!”   “If it isn’t safe everywhere, it isn’t safe anywhere!!!”

They also are demand that The NYS SENATE ACT NOW to protect our health before the end of the 2012 legislative session in just two days. They call on the Senate to pass the Sen. Tony Avella’s BAN bill (S4220) which is before them now.

Frack Free Nation, Inc., a non-profit, grassroots citizens’ group has gained notoriety for  sponsoring “Peaceful Direct Action”  events and rallies at the Capitol and around New York State, including  April 4th – Beyond Dirty Energy, May 15th –  Truth or Fracking Consequences Die-IN, and June 5th- Cross My Heart or Hope to Die-IN.  The May 15th event resulted in the arrests of Abram Loeb and Joanne Farrell of Occupy Albany.   Christina Countryman, of Frack Free Nation and Walk About Water, asks, How Many Grandmothers (and grandchildren) Will it Take to Get Governor Cuomo to Change His Mind?  I’m “dying” to know.   If you are too, tell the grandmas and bring a blanket to Albany on Wednesday, and we’ll find out, plan on coming either way!”

The group will hold a press conference and rally featuring voices of citizens from the Southern Tier of NY beginning at

11 a.m., followed by a rally and action in The War Room outside Governor Cuomo’s office.
